Colorado Mountain Bike and E-bike Rides

ADVENTURE is...the original E-bike tour...Out West!
Book Now

Bike riding at its Peak! Descend Pikes Peak and Gold Camp Road by mountain bike or E-bike.

The original e-bike tour, because it’s downhill the whole way. AOW has two riding options: The standard E-bike is powered by rechargeable batteries, and the “environmental-bike” is powered by gravity, solar energy, and organic material – you! These rides are downhill, so no extra power required. This is the thrill of a lifetime and quoted as “the best bike tour in North America.” If you’ve never been on a bike ride in the Colorado Rockies, you are missing out. Our professional guide will lead you through the aspen groves, train tunnels, canyons, and trails of the Pikes Peak region. Make your choice of a classic mountain bike or an easy E-bike.

Why choose Adventures Out West?

You can trust AOW for an amazing experience because the tours have been refined since 1973. You will get to ride with an experienced mountain bike guide who will show you the beautiful landscape of Colorado and keep you safe while you have fun.

Your ride up the mountain will be in a custom-built adventure vehicle, not a stuffy van.

AOW is family-owned and operated, ensuring that we can offer you the best possible adventure at every level.

Rated 5-stars on Trip Advisor and Google, and most of the reviews are about the awesome tour guides.

Capacity and details.

AOW has new fleet of bikes. The mountain bikes are Specialized Fuse and Rockhopper bikes. The E-bikes are Rocky Mountain Fusion Powerplay 30‘s. They are meticulously maintained for your safety, and they come in sizes from small to extra-large. You will get the perfect bike.

Groups are typically 10 people or less so that you will get individual attention from the bike guide. Do you have a large group? Call to ask about parties of up to 50 at a time, with some limitations.

All Pikes Peak tours leave early in the morning to avoid the traffic and catch the best views on the summit. Gold Camp Road can be booked in the morning or the afternoon.

Comfort and Safety.

Children must be at least 4′ 10″ to ride the bikes. They must also be 12 years old for Pikes Peak. On the paved roads, speeds can reach 40 mph or more.

All guests must be under 250 pounds to ride. Biking is an extreme sport and is not for the faint of heart. If you haven’t ridden a bike before, this is not the tour for you.

All tours are subject to weather conditions. Please check the forecast before you book. If your tour is cancelled due to weather, you can either reschedule or receive a refund. Bike tours are available daily from May through October, and year-round based on weather.

All guests must wear a helmet. Pikes Peak riders will be outfitted with a Giro Switchblade full-face helmet, complete with MIPS technology. These are extremely good helmets that will help to protect you if there is a crash. Listen closely to your tour guide, and you will be just fine. AOW also provides reflective safety vests, water, plus coats and gloves for cold days.

All tours are at your own risk. You will be riding with an experienced mountain bike guide. AOW has a team of riders that live and breathe bikes. Go with a ‘Colorado tour pro.’

All of AOW’s bikes are equipped with hydraulic disk brakes, Shimano Shifters, and mountain bike tires. Check out the Specialized Fuse and Rockhopper mountain bikes and the Fusion Powerplay 30 E-bike.

Booking.

Book with confidence knowing that you can cancel for any reason at least 24-hours in advance for a full refund. No refunds for cancellations within 24-hours of the departure.

Reservations are required for all mountain bike rides. Tours are available 7 days per week between May and October.

Call to talk to a local that can help you create the perfect trip. All the office staff live and work right here in Colorado Springs. No phone tree and no robots. Just real people ready to answer your questions. Call 719-578-0935 or email [email protected].

Adventure Overview:
The absolute best way to spend a morning or an afternoon. Get a taste of the Colorado Rockies and what makes this state so special.

You will start at the AOW bike depot to meet your guide and meet your E-bike! These are top of the line E-bikes from Rocky Mountain Bikes. Check out the new Fusion Powerplay 30, the only E-bike we found truly capable of handling the Colorado mountains.

The tour offers great vistas of Colorado Springs, Cheyenne Canyon, and the Eastern plains of Colorado. The ride starts by venturing through the beautiful Bear Creek Park with great photo shots of the Rocky Mountains. We will then venture through Cheyenne Canyon and the Historic Gold Camp Road. The route is on an old railroad bed used for transporting gold at the turn of the century. We will descend on through beautiful aspen groves, pine forests, old railroad tunnels, and rock formations that will take your breath away.

The road is gravel, which at times can be loose. Experienced bikers consider this ride easy. Those who are new to mountain biking will find the ride a worthy challenge but not too crazy. To do this entire ride plan on it taking two or two-and-a-half-hours. Advanced riders can opt to take ‘The Chutes’ which is a highly technical section of trail. If you want to take the fast way down, please call to book the extreme version of this ride.

2 guest minimum for booking new bookings.  Solo riders can join an existing group or pay for two tickets.

It’s your tour, and it’s going to be EPIC!

Adventures Out West has a world-famous bike team that will ensure your adventure down the mountain is a memory for a lifetime. AOW’s custom-built Jeeps are perfect for seeing the mountain unobstructed, ensuring you an amazing experience.

Your expedition starts when you meet your team and gear up at the bike shop. At check-in, you will be fitted and will test ride a perfectly maintained Specialized mountain bike or Rocky Mountain E-bike (chosen when you book). Appropriate attire and a working knowledge of bikes is required. Long pants, a sweatshirt and sport shoes are the minimum items. Summit parkas and neck gators will be handed out for your crisp air journey to the summit. Gloves and a hat are welcome to be brought along. It is a 1-hour drive to the summit of America’s Mountain. All tours leave early in the morning to offer an adventure that is low on traffic and high on beautiful weather.

The drive to the summit is breathtaking. This is also your chance to check out the route you will be descending. Winding curves and cute critters dot the way. You will be riding with a local tour guide that will tell you all about Colorado and Pikes Peak. History, Geology, Flora, Fauna, and tales of the West are some of the things you will hear about.

Arriving at the summit is an unmatched experience. It’s the view that inspired Catherine Lee Bates to write ‘America the Beautiful.’ You will also see the brand new $20,000,000.00 Visitor Center. You will have a few minutes to enjoy the experience at the top and then it’s time to mount up and ride back down.

7,500 vertical feet of downhill, Yee-haw!  Our guide leads your adventure, and the support vehicle will follow to help with any unplanned needs or if you just need to take a break.  A few more stops along the way for photo ops, then an epic finish at the base of the mountain. The vehicles will bring you back to the office.

Our world famous Pikes Peak Bike Expedition just got better! You can now add an E-bike to your Pikes Peak adventure. Adding an E-bike to your Pikes Peak experience will allow you to ride like a Tour De France rider up the hills. Hills on Pikes Peak? Yes, there are several hills as you descend down Pikes Peak. In fact, one hill that crosses a beautiful dam is aptly named “The Dam Hill.” Even our Colorado guides don’t like this hill. The big benefit to adding an E-bike is it will allow you to ride like a pro up the several hills you will encounter.

Back at base camp, you will get lunch at Rudy’s Hideaway, a classic Colorado Mexican restaurant. Food has never tasted so good as it does after a ride down Pikes Peak.

Temperatures will be 30-40 degrees cooler than Colorado Springs and the air is thin.  Most mornings the summit temperature is near freezing.  Dress in layers.  Long pants or sweats or appropriate.  You can put extra cloths in the chase van as you warm up.

Guests who are uncomfortable with the bike or those who want to come along to watch and experience Pikes Peak with their friends can ride in the Jeep for a reduced fee of $129 for the tour. You, the guest, are in charge of the bicycle.  People can and do fall.  If you break your bike you will ride in the Jeep for the remainder of your tour.  We have CPR trained guides on tour and hope they are not needed.  Please follow your guide and keep your speeds under control and you will likely have an incident free activity.  PRIVATE TOURS ARE AVAILABLE FOR THOSE WHO PREFER THEIR OWN SPEED.

If you read this far, congrats! Mention this section to get a free bumper sticker on your tour.

I couldn’t resist adding the Zipline and now I own the Trifecta T!   Awesome!

Take a ride through history…

This ride is best suited for anyone who wants a moderate ride but also wants to get off the beaten path.  The route has some intermediate to advanced sections depending on rider ability. Great for corporate adventures!

Our world-famous Gold Camp tour just got a little better!  You can now add an E-bike to your Gold Camp adventure.  Adding an E-bike to your Gold Camp ride will allow you to ride like a pro.  Although there are not a lot of hills that you have to climb, there are a few and having a powerful motor keeps you from breaking a sweat.  The big benefit to adding an E-bike is it will allow you to ride with excellent efficiency and confidence. An E-bike can be a tremendous benefit if you have any concerns with keeping up with the group. Lastly, the biggest benefit is you can go home and tell everyone you rode a Rocky Mountain E-bike in the Colorado mountains and you crushed it.

The tour offers great vistas of Colorado Springs, Cheyenne Canyon, and the Eastern plains of Colorado. The 17-mile ride starts at St. Peter’s Dome overlook and follows the Historic Gold Camp Road.  The route is on an old railroad bed used for transporting gold at the turn of the century. We will descend on Mtn. Bikes through beautiful aspen and pine forests, old railroad tunnels, and rock formations that will take your breath away.

The road is gravel, which at times can be loose. Experienced mountain bikers consider this ride easy with intermediate sections. Those who are new to mountain biking will find the ride a worthy challenge but not too crazy. To do this entire ride plan on it taking three hours or more. It is easy to shorten the ride depending upon the needs of the group.
